Job Title: Post-doctoral fellowship in host-microbiome interactions
Employer: Massachusetts Host-Microbiome Center, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be within 1 year of completing their PhD, or within 1 year of completing a post-MD or DVM residency and have a proven track record of taking scientific investigation to publication in quality journals.
US citizenship or green card status is required to be eligible for the funding source.
Description: The Bry lab at the Massachusetts Host-Microbiome Center has a post-doctoral opening to investigate metabolic functions of commensal and pathogenic Clostridia on host outcomes of disease. Funding is available as of April 1 , 2021.
The position will work with genetically tenable Clostridial species, including C. difficile and non-pathogenic commensal Clostridia, in in vitro systems and in gnotobiotic (germ free) mouse models to define commensal pathways that mediate interactions with other microbes and with host gut epithelium and mucosal immune populations. Candidates should have prior experience with bacterial genetic systems including the development of transposon libraries and gene-targeted systems, and in vitro microbiologic methods to evaluate bacterial metabolism and gene expression. Prior experience working with high- throughput methods to analyze RNAseq and/or metabolomic datasets, and/or animal models, a plus.
The position offers a unique opportunity to work with world-class scientists in microbiology, computational biology, immunology and gastroenterology, and to further develop skills in anaerobic microbiology, mucosal immunology, RNAseq and metabolomics, and application of the microbiome to human disease. Example publications from recent studies are listed below.
Application and Further Information: Please submit your CV, a cover letter that details your background relevant to the position, your long-term career goals, and contact information for 3 references to Lynn Bry, MD, PhD, Director Massachusetts Host-Microbiome Center, lbry @ bwh.harvard.edu.
