Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow
Employer: Kirby Lab at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School
Location: Boston, MA
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD; a background in microbiology; excellent communication skills; a strong track record of published scientific achievement, and experience with or strong desire to learn how to perform in vivo infection experiments. Applicants should be achievement oriented, highly motivated, and welcome use of a variety of approaches to address medically important, challenging scientific problems. Applicants seeking a first postdoctoral experience are preferred.
Description: A postdoctoral fellow position is immediately available to identify and develop novel therapeutics for multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens (carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as examples). We seek to understand mechanisms of action of and resistance to several novel, ribosome-active antimicrobial scaffolds under study and to develop strategies to increase potency and selectivity against highly resistant Gram-negative pathogens. This work will also drive iterative rounds of medicinal chemistry and structural biology exploration with our medicinal chemistry (George O’Doherty and Roman Manetsch, Northeastern University) and structural biology collaborators Ed Yu (Case Western Reserve University Medical Center). See https://www.kirbylab.org for overview of several ongoing lab activities where a postdoctoral fellow may contribute.
Our research laboratory is located in the recently constructed Center for Life Science Building near the Harvard Medical School Longwood Campus.
Application and Further Information: Send inquiries containing a cover letter/statement of interest, CV with list of publications, and contact information for three references to Dr. James Kirby (email@example.com).
