Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Biology (or related fields) by start of the postdoc position
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated publication record
  3. Expertise in invivo murine bacterial infection models

and one or more of the following:

  1. Expertise in microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, cellularormolecularbiology
  2. Experience with organic chemical synthesis and chemical characterization (e.g., NMR, HPLC, FTIR, MALDI, etc.)
  3. Experience with polymeric/soft materials characterization (e.g., AFM, TEM, SEM, DLS, DSC, mechanical testing, etc.)
  4. Experience with biomaterials, drug delivery, antimicrobial materials, histology and tissue processing, microbial and/or mammalian cell culture

Description: The Shukla Lab at Brown University has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of bacteria-responsive drug delivery systems. Rising antibiotic resistance and stagnant development of antimicrobial drugs is a global public health threat. Bacteria-responsive drug delivery systems can preserve the efficacy of existing antibacterial therapeutics and limit unnecessary exposure to these drugs. This postdoctoral opportunity will involve building upon novel bacteria-responsive hydrogel drug delivery platforms developed recently in the Shukla Lab and establishing in vivo infection models to analyze the efficacy and translational potential of these materials.

Candidates should be able to drive research, contribute independently, and be excited to work within a multidisciplinary and diverse research group.
